Generally outdoor fire pits can accommodate about six adults around it. The size of the pit that we buy is very important. And we should decide it well before buying or ordering it. We should buy it such that there would be enough space for us to sit around it. If we buy a pit which is too small it will not even produce the enough amount of heat. Also, the fire can get out of the space easily. The width of the pits should be at least about three feet. If we are trying to make use of the pits which should entertain a large group, then the width must be above six feet in width. We should always have in mind that the width of the area used for burning is not the only area that should be taken under consideration.



The thickness of the walls built surrounding the backyard fire pit should also be considered. Next major factor is the height of the pit. We should feel comfortable to prop our feet at the edge of the pit. If it is too tall, we will not be able to do so. Also, the height should not even be very small. If we construct it very short, then the people will have to bend towards it and come very closer to the flame. The best way to construct this pit is to continue with the dimensions ranging from twelve inches to fourteen inches. These are few inches lesser than the height of usually used patio furniture. If we prefer sitting at the edge of pit, we can follow the size at about eighteen inches. This will be very comfortable.
